How Does Your Job Affect SEO?

Don't Let SEO Freak You OutI have used this presentation in so many company wide SEO presentations that I figured I would post it publicly for the rest of the SEO world to make use of. It actually goes into how SEO affects all the typical roles within a company, IT/Development teams, Web Designer/UI teams, Content/Editorial teams, and Marketing/Promotions teams.

It also has some great background information including: What is SEO, what SEO is NOT, SEO Facts and Figures and it also has my Google quiz that I give.

Is an advertising agency is professional?

Asia Business ForumThis is a segment from one of the presentations I gave at the Asia Business Forum conference. Instead of putting the hour long presentation online I have divided it up, this section was talking about how a person can understand an agency’s ability, both from an SEO and an SEM standpoint.

This was done in 2005 and most of this is still very relevant. While the Yahoo qualification program has been closed to new members, Microsoft has created a certification program and Google’s program is growing and further being supported.

bing Say NO to French Canadians?

Does bing Hate Quebec?Microsoft has a contest looking for a jingle to go along with the bing search engine. Great idea, but it would seem to me that the bing search engine team doesn’t like French Canadians or maybe they only fear Celine Dion will enter the contest?

Microsoft’s contest to find a jingle for bing is open to “everyone” around the world except people living in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria and anyone that lives in Quebec, Canada. Very strategic move on Microsoft’s part as Celine Dion has been known to enter into contests that she doesn’t belong in (Eurovision 1988).

Keyword Research Tools

SMX China 2008Back in China, this time in Nanjing for the Search Marketing Expo event. This year’s event was noticeably more Chinese then previous years, those few foreigner agencies seem to no longer put China as a focal point. I totally understand this absence as while the China market is large I have been here for almost 7 years and the revenue, client side knowledge and general industry still has a long way to go.

What is an SEO Professional?

Are You an SEO Dummy or an SEO Professional? Many people, including most of my own family, have no idea what I do or how it’s of any benefit. This is common as most people think an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is just a matter of changing some magical code on the page, and that any website can get the benefits of SEO. This general misunderstanding is also why there are so many people able to offer SEO services; the average buyer has no idea what they are buying, and they end up buying the general idea of SEO than an actual SEO service.

eComXpo – SEO Facts vs Fiction

eComXpoThe idea of a global SEO conference became reality when eComXpo launch in 2006. Then have gone on to providing year after year a very successful event. Since I really wanted to support eComXpo I did one of my favorite presentations called SEO Facts vs Fiction.

This presentation was informative, fun and easy for most to understand as it was relatively a high level review of Search Engine Optimization.

The 4 areas which I focused on where:
What is SEO?
What SEO is NOT
SEO Facts and Figures
Future of SEO

ad:tech 2005 – What is SEO?

ad:tech 2005 Shanghai I have been talking at events for years, but in 2005 it was the first time I was invited to speak at one of the major search/advertising events. 2005 ad:tech had the claim to fame as being the the first major US conferences to be held in Asia.

While ad:tech isn’t a search specific event, it is probably the largest advertising conference circuit. My speech at ad:tech would be focused on letting people know what SEO is.

SES 2006 – Advanced SEO Techniques

Speaking about SEO at SESWhat did I think was important and was willing to give away to the SEO community in 2006? These are the 2 presentations that I gave at SES/Search Engine Strategies in 2006 and they show where the SEO industry was at in 2006.

Sure some of these items are no longer considered “advanced” but still websites fail to follow this simple requirements in both the basic and advanced presentations. It was also yet another great trip to China, in the photo here is Michael, Chris, Inway, Tim and myself.

bing SEO Check List

bing's Launch at SMXIn 2006 I created a document that reviewed the major elements of the different search engine algorithms. In this post I republish the document that was created reviewing 9 points of MSN’s Algorithm. While in 2006 there was no bing and now there is no MSN, so I have applied the MSN points to bing.

Since bing uses the MSN algorithm as its base, this should be only be used for referencing what MSN was like in 2006. Checking the Google algorithm from 2006 you can get a better idea of some of the points that might be added to bing’s algorithm.
